Silverleaf Chimney Sweeping

Terms & Conditions

Bookings

Following a booking, either in person or by telephone, email or message - a confirmation email / text message will be sent and will have a link to this page.

By booking with me you will have automatically entered into an agreed contract and accepted the terms and conditions detailed here, unless you specifically state otherwise in writing. If you wish to withdraw from the contract please contact me as soon as possible to cancel your appointment.

Chimney Sweeping appointments generally take 45 to 60 minutes, I usually give an estimated time of arrival, but this can only ever be an approximate time as every day is different to the next.
Sometimes I’m earlier than anticipated. Please ensure someone is home, or access is available, for up to 30 minutes prior to the time arranged. If I’m likely to be significantly later than arranged I will keep you updated on the day.

If you are aware of any faults or defects with your stove or chimney you must inform me at the time of booking, or as soon as practicable afterwards.

Cancellations

As the area I cover is quite large, with a lot of rural areas, I try to arrange my appointments fairly close to each other.

Should you cancel within 48 hours prior to the appointment I reserve the right to charge 50% of the sweeping fee.

If you should cancel within 24hours, including if I arrive at the property and nobody is home, or I am unable to gain access, or contact anyone, or if the fire, stove or range is lit - then the full sweeping charge may be payable.

It has become necessary for me to do this as I offer a professional service to my customers and as my diary is geography based I am unlikely to be able to book in a replacement sweep in a similar location.

Preparing for your sweep

Please ensure that the fire or appliance is not used the previous evening.

And if possible any ashes are removed from the grate and disposed of in your usual manner.
If my vacuum were to suck up a tiny ember it is likely to stick in the filters where it would become an inferno behind me whilst I work.

Prior to my visit please also take some time to look at any firebricks and lining of a woodburning stove.
These are generally considered a service item and are prone to cracking.
On many stoves I have to remove firebricks in order to sweep the flue. I cannot be held responsible for any bricks that are found to be cracked during a sweep.
In many instances a cracked brick will still be perfectly serviceable.

On my arrival

I usually need 2 to 3 trips to my van to bring the required sweeping equipment into the property.

Please, if possible, allow me a parking space close to the property.
If parking is not available close to the property or may be an issue, please let me know as soon as possible.

If it is wet, I put down sheets at the doorway, and to the fireplace as applicable.
I usually need a clear area of around 6 feet in front of the fire to sweep with a power socket available for my vacuum.

For a routine chimney sweep it is normally not necessary for you to cover furniture.
I use various methods to seal around fires and stoves, and my vacuum has HEPA filtration to capture the tiniest of particles.

If there are any breakable ornaments or similar either around the fireplace, or on my route through the house, please would you remove them prior to my visit as I cannot be held responsible for breakages to items that are left in my way.

Some of the tools within my toolkit are sharp and for that reason Children and pets should not be allowed too near to my working area unsupervised.

Please note it is the property owner’s responsibility to make sure any terminals or cowls that are fitted are of the correct type, serviceable and secure.
If a terminal or is faulty or fitted incorrectly I cannot be held responsible for its replacement, or any damage caused by it falling from the roof.

Chimneys are affected by the way that they are used, the weather and many other conditions, which may not be known to your sweep.
If you have any concerns please let me know – usually I am able to offer sound, unbiased advice.

Please be aware that older chimney linings may continue to drop material no matter how often they are swept and that tarry chimneys pose a fire risk and may require chemical intervention. If applicable, please check that your stainless steel liner manufacturer approves the use of chemicals before using them, or allowing them to be used.

Some forms of soot may require a more aggressive type of cleaning, which may not be suitable for your chimney system.
